January 2017: Time of Season, Time of Life

Picture
A big thank you to Licensed Psychologist Dr. Perry Bean, who offered guidance on how to be happy and healthy in 2017!

It’s up to you whether you let the season or the time of life take control of your mood.

How can you do this?
  1. Don’t waller.
  2. Get out, keep busy.
  3. Find new things you like to do instead of feeling bad about the things you can no longer do.
  4. Accept your limitations.
  5. Socialize. Your mind stays active when you spend time talking to people discussing multiple topics.
  6. Clean out the clutter in your life! This includes mental clutter and the clutter you’ve accumulated in your home and elsewhere.
  7. Consider the decreased responsibility you have at this point in your life. In other words, go have some fun!
  8. Loss is inevitable. Relish the memories and the time you had with your loved one.

As Dr. Capo summarized it, "get over it" and get on with life!

Following the talk there was a discussion among the group about places that offer different activities and continuing education courses.

  • The Great Courses, The Teaching Company
  • Cobb County ELM (Enrichment of Life Movement)
  • OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes)
    • Kennesaw State
    • University of Georgia
    • Emory University
  • Seniors Enriched Living, Roswell
  • Additional suggestions included the YMCA and any community center
