Dhaval Rohit Desai, M.D.
In 2025, Dr. Dhaval Desai decided to embark on a new endeavor, joining The Atlanta Internists as a Direct Primary Care Physician. From 2012 through the summer of 2025, Dr. Desai served as a Hospitalist at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, where he was Director of Hospital Medicine since 2015 and held numerous leadership positions. During his tenure, he was recognized with the prestigious Burson Physician Award in 2024, honoring a lifetime of dedication to outstanding patient care, leadership, and contributions to the field. Dr. Desai has also continued to serve as a pediatric hospitalist several times each year at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Throughout his years in the hospital, Dr. Desai remained fueled by his passion for delivering the best patient care possible and coordinating complex illnesses with compassion and precision. Over time, he realized he was ready to take patient care to the next level, returning to the roots of medicine in a primary care setting where he could dedicate the time needed for relationship-building, advocacy, and personalized care coordination.
A proud Atlanta native, Dr. Desai graduated from North Springs High School before completing his undergraduate studies at Emory University and medical school at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, where he studied in St. Maarten, N.A. and completed his clinical training at various teaching hospitals in New York City. He went on to complete a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Med-Peds) at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and is dual board-certified in both specialties.

Beyond patient care, Dr. Desai is a passionate advocate for humanism in medicine, a published author of a memoir ("Burning out on the COVID Front Lines..."), and a frequent contributor to local and national conversations about healthcare. He has been featured on CNN, NBC, NPR, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where he shares accurate, relatable, and real-world perspectives on medicine and wellness. He looks forward to continuing to contribute to these spaces in the future.
In his free time, Dr. Desai enjoys life in Atlanta with his wife, Dr. Yogita Tailor, a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician, and their two young children.
